There is a Specialty Training Committee which is mandatory for each School of Anaesthesia. Representation from Inverness on the North of Scotland School of Anaethesia Specialty Training Committee comes from one Core trainee and one Specialty Trainee. The meetings are three times per year.
There is also an STC for the ACCS programme. There is an Inverness based ACCS trainee represented at these meetings that trainee may be doing an Acute Medicine or an Emergency Medicine block, and may have a different parent specialty.
There is the Highland Hospital Subcommittee. The Trainee representative on this happens to be an anaesthetist just now. This is the route by which the group of doctors working in secondary care can officially communicate with the highland healthboard.
The Anaesthetists In Training Representative Group has a representative from the North of Scotland. Here is more info about the role. That rep is currently an Aberdeen based doctor in training. There is an annual process of election for this position which is the route for trainees to communicate directly with the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Two members of the ATRG are representated on the Anaesthetists in Training Committee of the RCOA.
The AAGBI have a Trainee Committee. Among other things, they coordinate an annual national trainee’s meeting. There are currently no representatives who happen to be based in the North. All trainee members of the AAGBI are eligible for election.
