Your Rota

You are banded this year, but can’t really do nights at least until you are competent with obstetric anaesthesia. So you do weekends and weekday evenings, but no night shifts.

Your normal working week is 8am – 5.30pm Monday – Friday.

A weekend is 8am – 8.30pm both Saturday and Sunday.

Novice Rota

You and your CT1 and ACCS2 colleagues will get together and divvy up the weekends and week day Long Days for the first 6 months. You start in early August, and none of you are doing the weekends which would give zero hours during weeks including the induction programme.

Every time you do the weekend, you get 4 days off in lieu. You are self rostering, but you still have to abide by the European Working Time Directive and the New Deal for Doctors. Handily learning about these things is included in the Core training curriculum within the Generic Professional Domains so feel free to record your learning from the process of self-rostering as evidence in your portfolio.
